I just listed my car for sale on Craigslist this morning and someone emailed me to see if it was still available. I told them yes. They then sent me this email-

Thanks for the urgent response.Am okay with the details provided on the item and will buy from you.I will like to make payment through a check after which it's been cashed and cleared then my shipper will come to pick up.If you are okay with that just email me with your name and address so that the check can get to you asap. Also, send your phone number so that my shipper can call you yo arrange the pick up when necessary.Am looking forward to read from you.

Thanks.

  1. This is an old scam. They use fake checks that trick banks and then you are left holding the bag when they find out.

  2. Sell on carsoup. That is definately a scam.

If they have a checking account, you should tell them to withdraw from THEIR OWN ACCOUNT

  3. Yes, look at the grammar of the sentence, and no phone number either.

  4. yes its a scam

look halfway down youll see one from mr kelvin

  5. Scam...definitely.

  6. It does sound odd but they are offering to pay first then pick it up.  I guess if the check clears it should be fine.  I would go to my bank and ask them if there is any way this can bite you in the ***.  Like even after the check clears, can you be responsible if it turns out weeks later that they have no funds available.  It would suck if everything went good and you get a call a couple weeks later saying you owe your bank thousands after you spent it already.  The more I think about it, It really sounds like it could go wrong.

  7. Scam - the check is worthless, and after your bank finds that out, YOU are then liable to come up with the cash to cover it.

You're wise to stay away from this.

  8. Yes thats a SCAM the check he sends will be no good .Also he is phishing for as much personal info as he can get. Stay away nothing but trouble.................UJN
