  1. That big black creature you're talking about is "Big Furry Monster." It's actually split into two halves:

    LEFT: http://sales.starcitygames.com//carddisp...

    RIGHT: http://sales.starcitygames.com/carddispl...

Keep in mind that the prices listed on that website is the retail value of the card. Chances are that you'll never get that much money from selling them as stores will always buy cards at well below the card's actual value.

Basic lands are virtually worthless (Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, Forest, and all their Snow-Covered variants). Lands named anything else (Taiga, Bayou, Karakas, etc...) may be worth more depending on the rarity, condition, and playability. The same logic applies to the other playing cards - value is tied to those three factors.

What you could do is go to the nearest hobby shop that buys/sells Magic cards and tell them that you want to get rid of cards in bulk. If you go in acting like you don't know anything about the game, then they'll likely just offer you a set price based on the number of cards you say are in the box. This will cheat you of a lot of money that you could possibly make by knowing the rarity and real value of certain cards.

Of course this will require you to go through the entire box and catalog the cards of note. If you have a friend who's knowledgeable in the game, it would make the process much easier and faster. Otherwise, you might just have to do all the work yourself. :(

You could use Star City Games' website to get an idea of how much what certain cards are worth (use the search bar to the left). Just realize that the prices there are marked up, so you'll have to shave off a few dollars or cents here and there to get a clearer picture of a card's value.

Good luck and hope you make a nice profit!

(Or... you know... you could slip me a little something too :P)
