Selling our registration plate?

we have a private registration plate and want to sell it how would we go about this,how do we get another plate? or get the original back? this private plate was on the car when we bought it. cheers

  2. Take a look at ebay there are loads of dealers there who will help for a percentage, or ask at you local DVLC, once the plate has been sold you can get another to fit the original year of the car

  3. You need to get a form V778/1 from your local DVLA to apply to put the VRM on retention.  The vehicle must be taxed or SORN with no gap in the licence/SORN and you must provide the V5C registration document and MOT certificate.  There is a fee of £105 and you should send everything to your local DVLA office.

    Your vehicle will be allocated an age related number and you will receive the private number on a retention certificate.  You can then advertise the number and once you know the name of the buyer send the retention certificate to DVLA to add the buyer as a nominee on the certificate, this will cost £25.

    Once you get the retention certificate back with the buyers name on you can just hand it over and he can apply to put it on his vehicle.

    Job done!
