After selling highly-rated Cesar Azpilicueta to the European Champions Chelsea, Loic Remy is another likely figure Marseille will be willing to cash on
If reports are to be believed, Brendan Rodgers, the newly appointed manager at Liverpool, is stepping up his interest in the transfer market to buy a striker who could well make an instant impact at Anfield.
And what can a manager expect more then to acquire the services of a player like Loic Remy from a financially stricken club like Marseille, eager to reduce their expenses and putting up cheap price tags for players of enormous caliber.
The financially constrained club is in dire need to make up for the recent debts incurred after having lost the Champions League spot and finishing on a paltry 10th spot last season. In this respect, the club has seen the departure of players elsewhere in
pretty compromised deals, with interesting parties cashing on the vulnerability of the club.
The recent comments of the chairman of Marseille, Vincent Labrune, are an emphatic prove of the constraints the club finds itself in. Labrune said, “Our objective is very clear: we must sell players. We are trying to reduce our wage bill and our priority
since May has been to get money to make up for missing out on Champions League.”
The disgruntled chairman added, “We have three players we have agreed to let leave – Cesar Azpilicueta, Stephane Mbia, and either Loic Remy or Andre Ayew”.
It is not only the desire of the club to let a player leave, the player also intends to abandon the club as he plans to take his game to a higher level. Prior to Euro 2012, Frederic Guerra, the Remy's agent, revealed the payer’s intent to leave the club
and make a dream switch to the Merseyside.
The 13 million pound price tag levied on the player is a pretty handsome offer according keeping in view the incredible conversion rate of the player estimated to be around 18.2% as opposed to Suarez’ 10.1% and Carroll’s 5.2 %.
It is up to the hierarchy at Anfield to decide if they plan to bring one recruit or show faith in their current striking duo.
