Selling your roping saddle?

I need a gently used roping saddle, between 14" and 15". I could use a barrel/roping combination saddle too, so if you know of anyone selling one or a good website let me know!

  1. I got my 14'' at my tack store

  2. Okay, you're asking for something that really doesn't make sense.

A barrel saddle typically is lighter weight with a fiberglass tree which is NOT designed for dallying on.  Fiberglass SPLITS, then crumbles.  Ever seen a car that's made of fiberglass and what happens to the body?  SAME idea!  They are also rigged off the tree, which means over time the rigging wears through the skirt leather, so imagine what would happed after just light use roping.

A roping saddle, is made to be TOUGH.  It's a rawhide or bullhide covered wood tree with normally a steel or brass horn attached.  This is designed for dallying with a rope once you wrap the horn in an old piece of intertube so that the rope won't slip.  The rigging is typically a FULL rigging, with dee rings coming off the saddle tree (I've yet to see one of these pull through or wear out.).

I went to ebay and looked at a few:

Now this one following is more suited to versitility, but it's old,  heavy, slick seated and harder than all get out to stay in if you don't have a good seat to start with.

Now to compare with, here's an Ozark/Saddle King barrel saddle (Didn't Tex tan come out with coloured seats in the late 60's or early 70's???)

Notice it says it has a "Poly Ride" tree, that's short for it's fiberglass and don't let your horse roll with it on!  LOL

I hope this gives you an idea of the differences between how a barrel and a rope saddle are made.

  3. Here's a few sites I'd check.

Horsetopia.com - Go to other classifieds.

    TackTrader.com

    Craigslist.com

    Google.com

    Ebay.com

    Yahoo.com

And your local tack chops. :]

  4. I am unaware of a barrel roping combination.  The best you can probably come up with is a penning roping combination.  Penning saddles need the deep seat of the barrel saddles but they sometimes rope with them as well so you can get a penning barrel combination fairly easily.  Dakota saddles makes some fairly good ones that are actually quite reasonable.

Ropers tend to have shallower seats than barrels to assist getting out of the saddle quickly.

  5. your local tack shop, ebay, horse.com, statelinetack.com, tackroominc.com, and you could try googling barrel/roping saddles, 15 inch.

  6. Go to this website. http://www.teskeys.com

They have tons of new and used saddles for sale. I have bought several extremely nice saddles from them. Including a brand new Circle T roping saddle. They have their own brand saddles, and also take trades and buy peoples used saddles.

  7. sell me your humping saddle
