Zenit St. Petersburg and Russian national team midfielder, Sergei Semak, has expressed his frustration after being left out of Russia’s squad ahead of 2014 World Cup group qualifying stage matches against Northern Ireland and Israel
national team.
The 36-year-old, who was a constant member of former coach d**k Advocaat’s team at Euro 2012, failed to convince newly appointed manager, Fabio Capello, to let him represent his country in the biggest football tournament in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858.
Capello, who replaced Advocaat after Russia’s disappointing European campaign in June, made some bold decision to exclude http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yuri-Zhirkov-c37683.
All of the aforementioned players remained an essential part of their national side in the past, working under Guus Hiddink and Advocaat prior to the former Real Madrid manager’s arrival.
Semak insisted that he has recovered from an injury and is ready to help the St. Petersburg club retain the Russian Premier League title this season. The prolific midfielder, meanwhile, expressed his desire to play in the later
stages of the UEFA Champions League.
Zenit have been drawn against Malaga CF, Anderlecht and AC Milan in the group stages of the continental tournament. Much to the delight of Semak, Luciano Spalletti has included him in the Champions League squad.
“Before I had a task to recover from injury, now I'm getting ready for the resumption of the Russian championship and the start of the Champions League. I will work, and only Capello will decide whether I deserve an invitation
to the team or not.”
“It’s still too early to draw conclusions on the team’s chances but I believe that Capello is taking appropriate measures to help our team and I think he is the right man for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684.” The UEFA Cup winner was quoted as saying.
The Russian national team will kick start the tournament by hosting the Purple and Whites at Stadion Lokomotiv (Moscow) prior to their tough away trip to Israel.
