Question:

Semi-Easy to care for fish?

I've got a small (very small) tank, I'm not sure what size it is or how much it holds. I was curious what kind of fish I could keep in it, that are colourful and maybe I could keep more than one together, which would be preferrable. I know I couldn't keep betta together, and I don't really want to have a betta right now. I'm also looking at price, so nothing too exotic. I don't want to get a filter or a heater, I'm good at remembering to change their water, and making sure its dechlorinated. Any ideas on the fish(s)?

  1. goldfish,neon tettras

  2. if you think it's a very small tank, it's too small for fish.

fish need space to swim and the water in a very small tank goes rotten very very quickly.

you may have goldfish mentioned - they need 20 US gallons/70 litres minimum per fish. or the humble betta/siamese fighting fish, these misunderstood fish need 5 US gallons/28 litres minimum tropical. The Guppy needs 10-15 US gallons/40 litres minimum tropical and the Neon Tetra needs 12 US gallons/45 litres minimum tropical.

all fish must have a filter! without the water goes real bad and reduces the fish's lifespan dramatically (to a week or so). and fish such as bettas and guppys are tropical fish and therefore must have a heater.

if you don't want to give a fish the correct living environment, don't get a fish.

  3. Well, no fish can live in something smaller than a gallon. A betta can live in a gallon as long as you do daily water changes and you need a heater for any tropical fish unless your house temp is at least 75F and never drops below. Goldfish need very large tank, so no you can not have one of those. The other fish I can think of you getting if the tank is at least 1 gallon is 3 zebra danios, even then you need a small filter. You can buy disposable ones you hook up to an air pump for dirt cheap. But no fish deserves to live in anything smaller than a gallon.Period. End of story.

  4. TRY GUBBYS  THERE CHEAP AND COLORFUL

  5. Well, if your fish tank is about 3 gallons, your options are getting 5 white mountain cloud minnows, 2 zebra danios, or a couple of guppies. These fish are cold water fish, and do not need a heater. The zebras are especially fun to keep- they are hardy, active, love interacting with others of their kind, and although they are not as elaborate as some tropical fish, they are still pretty. They would definitely benefit from a filter, but should be fine without one so long as you make frequent water changes. If your tank is anything smaller than 3 gallons, don't get fish. They will be unhealthy, unhappy, and not worth keeping. The biggest thing to avoid would be a goldfish. They grow to be huge, are incredibly messy, and need a +20 gallon tank. Good luck with your aquarium! :)

  6. Not to make this sound harsh but if you don't want to pay for your animal, you shouldn't own one. It's animal abuse. If you don't want a heater or filter, that is just mean. It is like putting you into the refrigerator with oxygen getting low every day. You need a filter for any fish that you want to keep. The only possible solution is getting goldfish. With how small you make your bowl sound, I would only get one. If it is 3 gallons, you can house two. There aren't any other fish you can get without a filter besides a betta fish.

Goldfish aren't very colorful so I'm at a loss. Animals cost money and if you can't afford (or you don't want) a filter, you shouldn't get a fish.

  7. A snail?

Honestly all tropical fish require a filter and heater unless you have a place in the house where the temp stays over 75F on a consistent basis.  And all coldwater fish need a filter, especially goldfish who are very dirty fish.

If your tank is larger than 5 gallons you can look at things like zebra danios, guppies, neon tetras, cories, drawf gouramis, or honey sunset gouramis but only if you have a filter and a way to keep the water temp over 75F, otherwise you can probably only house a single mystery snail.
