  1. As others have said, your two best bets are the Ruger 10/22 and Marllin 60.

Wally-World will have both for under $200

  2. You should be able to pick up a Ruger 10/22 for under $200 just about anywhere that sells guns. Classic, very popular. I have been shooting .22 competitions for over 15 years. While I would rather shoot a bolt action the Ruger 10/22 is still accurate with enough practice. Be safe, I hope you have a very large backyard with a good backstop since .22 bullets can travel over a mile! Try finding a gun club with a .22 league and enjoy.

  3. you have to be 18 to buy one.  Your parents can buy one and gift it too you, or buy one and allow you to use it.

You can get one at any gunstore, as well as many sporting-goods stores, and even walmart

here are three that you can probably get locally for $150-175. (or order online if you are willing to pay $30 shipping +$30 transfer fee)

if you can spend just a little more you can get a ruger 10/22 which has the most accessories and is the semiauto by which all others are judged

  4. (Q1. where can i get one for under 200 bucks.

Check Walmarts. They probably have the Savage 64FSS (or a variant) for well under your price limit (probably in the $100-150 range). Its a good, no frills rifle which will do everything you want it to do.

  5. Check out the Marlin 60, it's a VERY popular semi-auto .22 rifle known for it's accuracy and reliability.  Link:

  6. To be completely honest, I don't know how much of a difference you would notice between a bolt action and semi auto 22 if you only intend on recreational fun shoots.  With match grade ammunition you would probably see it, but for fun shoots, odds are you will probably be using the 500 round bulk packs which would probably mask any differences. Any whay, back to your question.

I would recommend first the Marlin model 60.  I can pick up a used one usually for $90 and get a very nice one.   I haven't priced any new ones lately, but they will definitely be in your price range. The Marlin 60 is very good right out of the box, throw a good scope on it and sight in and you shouldn't be disappointed.  Just be aware that they have a tubular magazine.  It doesn't bother me, but it does bother those who cannot live without being able to use detachable magazines.

A good second pick would be the Ruger 10/22.  It is just a little over 200, but does use detachable magazines.  From what I have observed (your experience may be different) the 10/22 is not as accurate as the Marlin model 60 if you compare both in stock form fresh from the box.  You probably still wouldn't be disappointed with the 10/22 but it will cost a bit more than what you hoped to spend.

A third recommendation would possibly be a Savage model 64.  It will be the least expensive of the three and the most basic in terms of appearance.  They use 10 round detachable magazines and can be a bit picky on what they like for ammo.  Mine will not shoot any soft lead .22 like the Winchester X-pert 500 round pack or any of the cheaper CCI ammunition.  Mine only likes the copper plated 22 bullets, anything else likes to jam.   Accuracy is still pretty good with this model, but not as nice as the Marlin 60 or Ruger 10/22.

  7. Marlin 60 are a better choice for less than $200

Ruger 10/22s cost more but not much

Your other option is a pawn shop

I usually buy my Marlin 60s for less than $100 in very good to excellent condition

Walmarts price on the Ruger is $230

  8. Pretty hard to beat a Ruger 10/22 in my humble opinion. Used they are readily available for under $150 and new under $200. Here's what I think the 10/22 has going for it:

*Lots of accessories available for rifle (stocks, high-capacity mags, barrels)

*1" accuracy at 50 yards with match ammo even in basic models

  9. Ruger all the way

  10. A Remington model 597 is a good shooter and a synthetic stock one can be bought a walmart for under $200 bucks along with a brick of 22 bullet ( 550 rounds) for under $10 and you can shoot all summer long. good luck

  11. For $200 Marlin model 60 and enough left over for a few bricks of CCI Mini-Mags.

Next but getting close to $200 is the Ruger 10/22. Dress-up accessories GALORE.
