Send mail from server CentOS5, cPanel/WHM?

We have a new dedicated server with CentOS5 & cPanel/WHM. Unfortunately I can't get it to send any email. Our domain's MX records point elsewhere because we have a third-party email provider. How do I get it to just SEND mail from the server directly? Experience with cPanel and Linux needed ... thanks in advance

  1. Your real problem is that most POP / IMAP servers will not accept or route e-mail from SMTP servers that are not tied to a domain name.

You could set up your local machine to relay requests to your usual e-mail server.

However, it makes far more sense and is far easier to simply set up a dummy e-mail account on your regular e-mail server that has SMTP permissions, then use a mail library to connect to and authenticate against your remote SMTP server.
