  1. Would you feel any differently if instead Russia had invaded Italy, or England, or Australia, or perhaps the US state of Massachusetts?

  2. To use container ships or other cargo ships would require leasing them, loading them and have them sail for Poti. A considerable time would elapse before the needed humanitarian supplies would arrive. The "war ships" are a Navy destroyer, a Coast Guard Cutter and a Command and Control ship which also serves as flagship for the U.S. Sixth Fleet. Still, we had to gain permission from the Turkish government to transit the Bosporus to get access to the Black Sea from the Mediterranean.

We also used Navy ships in providing relief and humanitarian supplies to Myanmar (Burma) after a cyclone devastated part of that nation. We've used them to provide such assistance to lots of other countries. In none of those previous events did the presence of those ships trigger armed conflict.

BTW, the Russian nuclear submarine fleet is mostly rusting away at their piers. That includes their ballistic missile submarines.

  3. The first line should read Russia just started a new Cold War; it was not started by the US or President Bush.  The facts are that in almost every natural diasaster the first ships to arrive with relief supplies are warships regardless of country they belong too.  The government cann order a military ship to any military or commercial port to load up and send it own the way faster then it can contact a commercial company, see what ships they have empty where, unload it and reload it then send it out.  The military warships have limited cargo capicity but are faster and can get moved quicker then commercial ships; most military cargo ships are loaded with military supplies and stay out further from bases nearer military hot spots and to use them they would need to be unloaded and then reloaded so again more time.  Look at every diasaster and you will see US, French and British warships are usually the first to arrive and unload the critical supplies before the rest of shipping catches up.  Look at who was in Indonesia first after the earthquake?  American carrier and amphibous war ship followed by British warship then a Frnch all their days before the first cargo or commercial ship showed up to help.  Katrina and the Guld Coat/New Orleans the same was true supplies delivered by military helicopters off of military warships or from military ground stations.  Nothing new about it being done that way and do you hear the Russians complaining about it very much; they know how it works and will protest just to protest but know those ships are not their to threaten them.  Trying to make a political statement as though this molehill was a mountain is theaterics and nothing else.

  4. Putin is out of line in so many ways, he is making a basic " Power play", trying to restore a power over Russia that the people there do not want anymore. Putin is going " Old School" and that will not happen any more. The Russian people want to move on in this world and not go back to "Dictatorship". I would like to here from people from this country on this issue. Isn't the leader of Russia, now just a puppet of Putin? Please tell me I am wrong? What do the Russian people have to say on this matter?, they are what counts.

  5. Just passing by in dropping off supplies?

    Is that crazy?

After unloading should leave for home.

    What do you think?

  6. Bush didn't have anything to do with Russia invading Georgia and a US warship has the best capability of delivering supplies.

  7. All I can seem to gleam from your post is one big BAAWWWWWWW.

Putin is not going to go nuclear over Georgia anymore than we are, now settle down and drink your baby formula!!

  8. You don't know what you're talking about..

  9. You might want to know a few facts before you post.

  10. We should all thank God that our NATO partners are blessed with much wiser leadership than we are.  If Bush had his way, Georgia would be in NATO and the Marines today would be grappling with the Russians over who gets to control one province of 70,000 people, who prefer to be part of Russia.  Like its any of our business, or we ought to care.  Bush seems determined to hand the power to drag the US into war to every hotheaded maniac in the area.  Maybe he feels they are kindred spirits.

It ought to also be plain that what Bush and cronies are up to now, with all the bluster and rhetoric, is trying to throw a war scare into the American people so they will vote correctly come November.  I suppose we ought to be used to the endless arrogant folly by now, but I still miss the old days, when we did not have an IDIOT running the country.
