Question:

Sending Birth Announcements?

Do people send out birth announcements anymore these days? Everyone already knows about the birth and the babies birth info and have likely seen photos via email. Baby is also almost 5 weeks old.

What is your experience with birth announcements? Did you send them? If not, why?

I can't decide whether or not I should order some and get them out. I know there is a space for it in the baby book and don't want to not do something that I should be doing.

Thanks!

  1. I actually ended up buying birth announcements from the hospital. It was part of a large picture package. They were nice to have because even though by the time I got the announcements, everyone had already seen pics of my son through email and whatnot, it was a way to give everyone an actual picture they could put up somewhere. =)

  2. i am not going to because i cant really afford it. but we are going to get family pictures and send pictures to the few people that are out of state.

  3. In the last year I've received 3 from my friends... obviously I knew the baby was born and had already seen him/her but I think it's nice to have a little keep sake! I am only 6 months along in my first pregnancy so I have no personal experience sending anything out, but as a friend or family member I love receiving them. Not only is it something for you and your child to look at years later, but also for those friends who scrap book and keep updated photo albums! On a personal note my husband and myself have already decided that we will be sending them to our friends and family!

  4. My mom and I purchased birth announcements.  I sent them to our friends and co-workers, my mom sent them to her friends, family, and co-workers since she was a first time grandma, and my mother in law sent them to family and friends.  I love getting birth announcements.  You can get create your own birth announcements at Target for pretty cheap (we used ones for his Baptism and Baby Shower).  You design them on the computer and print them yourself!  Congrats on the baby!

  5. I got two in the mail last week! I think people still send them, at least around here, but I think they've changed a lot. The last two I got were both really fun and different- one of them was a magnet (super cute!) and the other one was a regular postcard looking one but it was done in black and white and then the babies eyes were piecing blue. It's so cool what photographers and photoshop can do nowadays!
