Sending Kamran Akmal at No. 7 makes no sense, says Wasim Akram – Cricket News Update
Legendary left-arm pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Akmal-c70122 to bat at No. 7 in the opening one-dayer against Australia, saying it makes no sense to him to send an opener
in the lower order.
"It made no sense to send him to bat at number seven. He must be utilised as an opener which is his natural position in limited over games," said the former Pakistan skipper while speaking to
Geo News, a private news Channel.
Kamran Akmal, playing his first international match for Pakistan since the 2011 Cricket World Cup, was sent to bat in the lower order during the first ODI against Australia, at Sharjah, UAE on Tuesday. The right-handed batsman, who has been opening for Pakistan
since last year’s world cup, could score only four runs in the match, which Pakistan lost by four wickets.
Another decision which surprised the pace bowling veteran was playing just two specialist fast bowlers, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sohail-Tanvir-c90665. Pakistan fielded a batsman-studded line-up (7 specialist batsmen), yet failed to put up a par total on the board.
"It was a wrong policy and we should have played one more fast bowler instead of an extra batsman," said Akram, who played 104 Tests and 356 ODIs for Pakistan during an international career spanning 1984-2003.
The left-armer said that it was disappointing to see Pakistan failing to give the Kangaroos a tough fight on a wicket which suited them more than their opposition. He also noticed that the current middle order of Australia is the weakest in their history
and urged the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 bowlers to exploit that in the remainder of the series.
"I have never seen such a weak middle order for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and we need to exploit that and win this series," he added.
Replying to a query regarding Pakistan’s flopped batting, Akram said that the Pakistan batsmen are not playing their natural game and are afraid of playing shots in the powerplays.
The second ODI of the three-match series will be played in Abu Dhabi, on Friday, August 31. The one-day series will be followed by three T20 Internationals.
