Question:

Sending a Laptop to the Dominican Republic, use FedEx? Possible Problems with Custom Taxes?

Hello,

I am sending a laptop to the Dominican Republic and was warned that it could be exorbitantly taxed. How would they know what is in the box? Could I lie what is in the box, or will they open the box automatically? Im sure that it has to go through a metal detector though.

The laptop is old and the value is no more than 200 dollars.

Money is not an issue because I receive a discount on shipment because my spouse works for FedEx. So shipping will be extremely cheap.

Anyone experienced with shipping a laptop to the Dominican Republic? How was it taxeD? Any recommendations? Thanks!

  2. If it is sent my regular mail, I know they open it and tax it, but I was told that if it is sent by Fed-ex that this was not the case.  Is there anyone at Fed-ex who you could ask...or who knows the right person to ask?  Maybe they could call the recieving office in the D.R. to ask.

  3. anything over $200 gets taxed...
