Sending bills to your ex?

This is for divorced parents..

What do you do about the bills from your children's visits to the doctor or dentist? Do you pay them in full and then send a copy of the bill, and tell the ex what his part is out of the whole bill and let him or her know that you already paid it in full but he owes you now?

Because the insurance will make the person that took the child to the doctor or dentist pay they don't care who is responsible for what. They just want their money. You can't exactly say well here is my percent he owes the rest, they wont let you do that

  1. the answer to this should be in your divorce agreement. where i live, my friends has it in hers, that the mom pays the first $300 a year and the dad pays the rest. mine states we split it 50/50.

go back and read your papers, legally there HAS to be something in there.

  2. That depends what is agreed upon at the time of the divorce. Is he suppose to pay part of the bill? If he is suppose to carry the insurance on them, or just pay part of the bill. If it is only part, then send him a copy of the bill and what percentage he owes. If he is suppose to carry the insurance then he should have insurance forms sent to you, so the Dr. can summit them, then you would pay your percentage.

  3. technically the person that takes the child to the dr is responsible for the whole charge while there. Once they leave, they can send a copy of the bill to the other person requesting their half of what is owed.

But I wouldn't hold their breath waiting to get the money, they will say that's why you get child support. If the co pay isn't big, just pay it and be done with it or take turns taking the child to the dr so you both end up paying over time and you don't have to ask the other for money back.
