my ex is overseas in iraq and though things arent quite how i'd like them to be between us, we're still friends, and occasionally talk when we get a chance. his birthday is comming up in a few weeks and i was planning on sending him a package full of goodies. one thing i was thinking about adding was cookies, but i wasnt sure about sending chocolate chip cookies in fear that they would melt...if not chocolate chip, does anyone have any other cookie ideas?

the last package i sent him was about a month ago, and it had tootsie rolls, twizzlers, sunflower seeds, hard candy, baby wipes, deodorant, toothpaste, hand sanitizer...stuff like that. so i was hoping this one i could make a little more personal...hents the homemade cookies.

idk, i guess im trying to do this in hopes of him realizing im still here for him, and thinking about him...so any advise would be GREATLY appreciated!

  1. I just returned home from a 17 month deployment to Iraq. Between all the cookies that my wife sent me and all the cookies and candy that were donated to us from organizations, I craved stuff like ramen noodles or easy microwave mac-n-cheese cups. water flavor packets with protein in them (Crystal Lite packets) are GREAT to receive. Whey protein mix is also TERRIFIC to receive. Beef jerky is fantastic as well. If you want to send him something personal, include pics of you (it sounds like you guys still have something going between you). If you guys have kids together, ask your kids to make him stuff. Send lots of letters and pictures. Or you could make him a card or make him a calendar to count down the days until he gets home. You can include pictures on the calendar and funny jokes like that.

  2. I send chocolate chip cookies all the time to my husband.  My mother taught me a trick to sending chocolate when my father was overseas.  Coffee cans.  Arrange the cookies in coffee cans with wax paper between the cookies.  They arrive fresh and in one piece.  The last batch I sent I filled in the space with unsalted popcorn.  Two treats in one.

The other neat thing is to bake a cake in a jelly jar, seal it, then wrap it in bubble wrap.  It stays fresh until he opens it and I promise you it will not have time to spoil.  I sent my husband 15 cakes in a jar for his birthday to share with his men.  I sent two cans of frosting with the cakes and they had a wonderful treat.

    Good Luck.

  3. I've heard about the coffee can idea too although I haven't tried it personally I do know people who have with success. I have also done the cake in a canning jar and it worked great. You just send along a can of frosting and sprinkles or goodies and they have birthday cake.

    Here is the recipe....

I will add that the cake will slide out easier if you use the wide mouth jars otherwise if you use the regular style jars they will have to frost the cake and eat it inside the jar. Also what the previous poster sais about those drink packets it true. They sell crystal light or lipton single serve packets that you can add to a bottle of water to flavor it. You could get punch and send him cake and punch for his bday.

  4. By the time the food gets there it is all spoiled. (Moldy ad dirty) It might not be good to eat. Don't want to make them sick.

  5. Use the link below. They take care of all the postal regulations and what not and know who needs what where. You can make a donation to any of these people and save yourself some headache.

  6. make sure that you write something lame on the box...it sounds stupid but trust me! if you write sweets or goodies or anyhting having to do with anything interesting someone else will see it and go through his box and steal all of his nice things!! it suck but thats how guys are! try writing stationary set or toothbrushes lol. oh yeah dont write books...for some reason those are interesting to guys overseas!

4Mix cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.

5Shape dough into balls and roll in the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

    6Bake at 400°F for 8-10 minutes.

im not sure if this will work but you could alwayse make the m n m cookies instead of chocolate chip ones

my husband lovs sobe no fear energy drinks they tend to make messes when shiping so i put them in bagies to keep the mess contained

as many have mentioned things like ramen and easy mac are great too along with the sup in the cup deals such as cambells has

slim jims and lil debbies were a big request too from him along with puding pringles and cereal the sweet stuff

i got my husband an energizer baterie charger with the various bateries cuts down on having to send them all the time

  8. Oatmeal/Oatmeal Raisin/Sugar Cookies/Cinnamon Sugar cookies/Shortbread/Lemon cookies

    Can't send chocolate, it melts.

They always love magazines, too.  My friend's husband just got back.

    Hope he stays safe!!!

**The coffee can/jar idea that the others posted sounds worth trying**

  9. I was in for 4 years and can tell you that any package is greatly appreciated. I would not suggest sending chocolate though. Because packages and what not sit out a lot. Pending allergies I would suggest oatmeal/peanut butter/ something that won't melt and will stay fresh for a while when packaged. Depending on where he is over there, anything reminding him of civilization and home is a good bonus!  Good luck!
