Question:

Sending food ahead of time before traveling?

I am going to Aruba in 2 weeks and we have a small kitchen in our unit. I was thinking about buying snacks and things for breakfast and lunch to save money but I was told by a few people that buying food and snacks down there can be really expensive. Someone had suggested to me to buy what we need here ( as long as it doesn't go bad) and then send it to our hotel ahead of time. I contacted the hotel and they gave all the info I need to send it out. Has anyone ever done this? If so, is it really any more beneficial then buying it directly on the island? Did you save a lot of time and money?

  1. It is not expensive enough to justify paying to ship food.

You might want to pack some spices and such in your suitcase.  Maybe some tea bags.  Anything small and light, for which you wouldn't go through a whole package in 2 weeks.

  2. The food is not that expensive I would guess that with the shipping costs it would workout about the same. I would just pack things in your suitcase, like peanut butter, granola etc....

  3. I wouldn't mail food ahead of time.  Certainly take a few things with you in your luggage if you are so inclined, but other than that I would plan on buying the food there.  Part of the adventure is buying things locally.  I don't think there would be great savings in mailing it ahead of time.
