  1. If the UPS people told you that then it is probably true. Mexico currently has some trade differences with  China. Also the Mexican govt. has unusual restrictions about what can be sent out of Mexico. If you send something here it is also quite likely that wjhoever you send it to will end up paying the courier service at least 50% of the value of what you are sending in taxes and fees upon delivery.

You might try FedEx to see if they tell you anything different.

The best thing to do if you want to send something to Mexico is bring it yourself or send it with someone who is coming.

  2. It's half true.

You can send anything legal to Mexico without any problem. But in this case depending on what do you want to send is the price.

Anything that you send by fedex, ups, dhl or usps that is made in china or a similar country that is worth more than $100 USD has an import tax of at least 50% the value of the merchandise plus 500% - 800% of a compensatory rate.

If your package is worth less than $100 USD the person that receives the package here, has to pay $75 USD for import taxes and he doesn't have to pay the compensatory rate mentioned above.

That's why I think the clerk told you that you cannot send anything to mexico to save you some money and a headache

  3. I don't know that you can't.  See the link below from the usps website. It tells you the restrictions on what can't be mailed to Mexico.  You are better off mailing via USPS internationally because UPS will charge the recipient extra fees in addition to customs charges.

    Observations

       1. Goods whose commercial value exceed U.S. $70 dollars should be accompanied by a commercial invoice.

       2. Import permits or licenses are required for merchandise exceeding 5000 Mexican pesos. Merchandise valued less than 5000 pesos does not require import permits.

       3. To speed delivery of items subject to customs duty, commercial shipments must be accompanied by two copies of the commercial invoice, duly translated into Spanish, and inserted inside the package. Addressees will be fined if these documents are missing.

  4. With Dhl...and that is true...u can not import or sell things from china in mexico
