Our family is preparing to send a package to Vietnam consisting of family pictures and home movies on dvds. We have also prepared some burned DVDs of american movies (i.e. disney).

Will our package be searched at Vietnam customs? Is sending the burned American movies putting the package at a major risk of not arriving? If we mark the DVDs something like family movies, will that make a difference?

  1. As "V" stated above, your package will most definately be searched. Futhermore, if the customs officer on duty decides he wants to watch Disney films that night, your package will be "lost".

The most reliable way to get a package to Vn is to contact your travel agent and ask if they can have it courriered to Vietnam by someone who is going there.

I have sent papers for my wife to sign and had them returned to America, with her signature, within 60 hours. It costs a few dollars, but it is worth it.

Also, be aware, the USPS no longer ships mail via ocean freight. Everything is now sent air-mail, which is very expensive.

another expensive but reliable option is an "overnight" service such as fedex or GOD. They usually get things through customs without losing them.

  2. Do not send the burned DVD's,your package will be searched and you will also cause a problem for the people you are sending them to[the police will try to fine them].

  3. Packages I have received (mostly from Australia) have all been searched.

My guess would be that Customs won't allow you to send burnt DVD's due to p****y laws. Seems funny, because you can buy all the latest movies in Vietnam!

I know you can't SEND cd's/DVD's out of Vietnam.

This doesn't really give you a yes or no answer but I would be cautious about sending them!
