I read this article with disgust...

http://www.news24.com/News24/Sport/Tri_Nations/0,,2-9-2185_2353153,00.html

Does Peter Devilliers have the right to bring South Africa's Rugby reputation into disrepute by making statements like:

Quote from article:

"We just have to become illegal sometimes too," de Villiers said. "We will have to look after ourselves."

Yes there clearly was a problem with the way the ALL BLACKS Scrummed - but does that mean we must now jump on the bandwagon...?

This sort of mentality is the reason why we have many of the problems we do in SA

Example:

"Everyone's doing drugs - so will I"

"Everyone's driving drunk - so will I"

"Everyone is doing crime - so will I"

I find statements of this nature especially when the youth of our country read and listen to them - reckless and dangerous...

Your Thoughts?

  1. That other Mugabe is not me. Look at him - his face is too long. He is an impostor.

I do not wish to let this sort of morality become the norm. Just because one person or group of people are misbehaving, that does not mean everybody is morally allowed to. Look at Governments; they all rob the people blind, I know this. But if the people try to steal things, the policeman, he will come and take them away. That is what happens in Zimbabwe.

It is a very bed thing when the people copy those in power, and in his way, de Villiers is a man with power. He must learn to think before he talks. How does he think I have managed for so long?

  2. He should be careful what he says because as you mention, these statements can be seen in a different light. His statement was probably out of frustration because that Aussie just nailed us again. I am not an expert by far and all the technical stuff in the game may not make any sense to me and guys like him, understand every aspect and they see what other teams are doing and getting away with. We just do not get away with anything.

  3. He should get somebody to speak on his behalf.  A person who thinks through every question and not immature statements that make us squirm.

He needs a PRO who is fast on his feet thinking and come up with statements that can do us proud even if we loose.

  4. I believe that it sends out a message that's great for the individual- when in rome. Unfortunately, that doesn't help the situation or improve the way things are, but it's the kind of advice I'd give to an individual. In africa, you can't be too concerned about the bigger picture or you'll get burned. You gotta watch your own a ss first

This is the african way. conform or starve.

  5. It is called rugby, gentlemen, not girls netball, it is a game for men who can take a few knocks, it is a game for the strong and the tough, winning is the aim.

If you don't have the stomach for it, then there is all ways girls netball.

EDIT ..You guys are right, he should not have said it, he is just too dumb to lie.

  6. Hy is kwaad vir homself, maar dit was sy eie besluit.............nou moet hy rekenskap gee
