Seneca Wallace returns to practice
Cleveland quarterback, Seneca Wallace will return to practice on Wednesday after missing the last three games with a high ankle sprain, but he may not have a starting role waiting for him.
Head coach, Eric Mangini, said that Wallace will take about 25 percent of the snaps in practice with McCoy getting the other 75 percent.
"At this point we're just seeing what Seneca can do," said Mangini.
The Browns were 1-3 with Wallace starting at quarterback, and have gone 2-1 since his injury with rookie quarterback Colt McCoy. Not only has Cleveland won two games with McCoy, but they won those games against two of the best teams in the League.
The Browns beat the New Orleans Saints 30-17 in New Orleans, and then they beat the New England Patriots 34-14 last Sunday. In those two games McCoy threw for 529 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. He had a quarterback rating of 83.5.
Wallace threw for 693 yards in his four starts with four touchdowns and two interceptions. He had a quarterback rating of 88.5.
Wallace himself is the backup quarterback behind Jake Delhomme, who was knocked out of the Browns' first game with a high ankle sprain. Delhomme came in as the back-up behind Wallace against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 5, and was promoted to first string
quarterback when Wallace was injured, but he re-injured his ankle in that game, giving McCoy a chance to play.
Mangini is impressed with his rookie quarterback, who was drafted third in the third round of last year’s draft.
"I like the way he is able to take on more each week," the coach said. "I'm proud of him."
It’s unlikely that Wallace will see very much playing time this Sunday when the Browns play the New York Jets at home, but should McCoy struggle or get injured, Wallace is a good option to have waiting on the sidelines.
