Senior batsmen must perform consistently, says Shoaib Mohammad – Cricket News Update
The former Test opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Mohammad-c90091, is not happy with the national team’s senior batsmen and wants them to perform consistently to help the country do well in the international arena.
Since the Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 have looked off-colour at times.
In the recently concluded first Test of the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 were bundled out for merely 100 runs in their first innings, which was a disastrous result, considering the fact that the home team had posted a massive total of 472
runs on the board on the very same pitch.
Pakistan’s Test captain Misbah was banned for the Galle Test because of slow over-rate and Hafeez was handed over the captaincy. The middle-order batsman will be back in the team for the Colombo Test and while talking to
Pakpassion, the former opener expressed that the inclusion of the 38-year-old will strengthen the Pakistani batting.
Misbah will most probably replace the middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Ayub-c76805, who debuted in the Galle Test.
Shoaib urged the senior players to raise their game, instead of becoming a burden on the team and take their places for granted.
The former cricketer said, “Misbah's return will strengthen the batting as he is a good player of spin and can hold the innings together. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Younis-Khan-c98325 is a senior player and he is expected, along with other senior members of the team, to carry the team. Senior
player are expected to perform consistently and for the majority of any series. It should not be the case where they perform in one out of five matches.”
The Karachi-born former sportsman believes that the seasoned players always take responsibilities on their shoulders in all the major teams of the world, but unfortunately, this is usually not the case with Pakistan’s current lot of seniors.
“This is the disadvantage with Pakistan. Senior players often take the back seat because they are confident they won't be dropped as there aren't many backups and replacements,” he added.
