Sensation looking to make a big impression in the Peterborough Puppy Derby
Trainer Pat Rosney will be hoping that he is more than just making up the numbers in the Bettor.com Peterborough Puppy Derby.
Rosney is renowned in the business as one of the top trainers in the north of England and has a fantastic record in puppy races. His greatest moment came in 2004 when Dairyland Sue romped to success in the Northern Puppy final by a record seven lengths then followed it up by winning the Midland Puppy final.
Rosney has three runners in Wednesday night’s final. Little Hawk and Vatican Hamish will probably provide the supporting act for the hot favourite Little Sensation, who is being touted to repeat the feat of Dairyland Sue and maybe even better her achievements.
The word has obviously spread surrounding the talent of Rosney’s charge, as legendary Skysports pundit Andy Gray (pictured above) has brought a stake in the dog. If Gray was to sit down and analyse his dog’s progression through the competition he would struggle to find any negatives. Little Sensation has qualified in first position in both his races and has clocked the two quickest times of the competition in the process. His times of 25.28secs and 25.26secs are three tenths of a second quicker than his rivals, and a repeat of those performances would mean he is the one to beat.
He has however got a history of disappointing on the big stage. In March he was sent off the favourite in the semi-finals of the Monmore Puppy Derby and ran very disappointingly, finishing last. Rosney’s star attraction is far more experienced this time around and has consistently broke from the traps very quickly in his last three starts, dampening any doubts about fluffing his lines this time around. As long as he is in touch at the first bend, his speed should be too much for his rivals to handle.
You can see it now; a balding Scottish man on the winning podium embracing his victorious hound with four famous words – take a bow, son.
