  1. It's not just lads that stay up all night and sleep all day, it's teenagers. I have a 17 year old daughter and she is on her phone or MSN all night to her friends of both sexes. And I also have a best friend with a 16 year old lad and a nephew of 15 and they are the same. And they too worry about the violence on the streets but my best friend's boy is getting better and goes out a little more now. I think the draw of going out gradually takes over the fear. So don't worry, he sounds like a good lad and it seems you have a good relationship so be grateful for that because seeing some of my daughter's friends, trust me you could have far worse problems

  2. my brother went thru a phase like this also... my mum just left him alone... but just be careful he does'nt slip into depression

  3. fair enough, but can he join a group? like a local band or the cadets? or even a swimming or football club?

    x*x

  4. Tell your son to join a local youth club.

  5. You can encourage him to go out with his friends, but not during nighttime. There are a lot of activities that include going to the movies, just getting together to have lunch, bowling, or even staying in to do activities.

It is not unusual for teenagers to stay up and sleep in until 1 PM. When I was in my teens, I did this all the time as I didn't think 1 PM was not too late. Sleeping in any later than 2 PM would be considered late. It only seems late if you get up at 8 AM, but most likely he doesn't go to bed until 3 or 4 AM.

It's school holidays and he should be able to relax at home if he wants to. You can also encourage him to volunteer or get a part-time job.

    Good luck!

  6. suggest him goin to marshal arts class and get him sum weights or sumthing.<<<< jus boot the best confidence booster that ever existed. as for the "sleepin all day" thing... its not f*ckn sleepn all day. if you go to sleep later, you get up later<<<< still the same amount of sleep!!!

  7. hello... i'm a italian girl... sorry...

  8. As a teenager myself, (I know that you might not want to hear from another young person, but hey) it IS worrying when you hear about more stabbings happening every day, young people being killed for no reason, sometimes even people we know.

Most of us do not go out late at night for this reason, but when with a large group offriends, it is less daunting, and yobs don't seem as interested as they would be if there was only one or two of you.

If you encourage him to meet up with friends and go out, or maybe stick to going out in the day if he really wants to go alone, then he shouldnt get any trouble.

If hes still really unwilling after you have suggested alot of options, it may be just that he is making excuses for feeling tired (hormones drag us down alot you know!), falling out with friends, or just feeling generally sluggish.

    Good luck x

  9. The sleeping is, apparently, not unusual. Our (now) 19 year old was the same at that age. Apparently it is something to do with the bodily/hormonal changes in lads of that age. His fear may be something to do with where you live, or, as has been suggested, might be an indicator of depression or something else.

Would it help to explain that it is rare for these things to happen and that is why they get reported? Also, they are restricted to certain geographical areas - for instance, they are not happening all over London, only certain areas; the same in Sheffield. It is a danger of the times that the media create a crisis from a problem that was already there and not that large in reality.

There is no straightforward answer, but your son is unlikely to be unusual. I recommend Parentline for help and advice for parents - their advisors and the website are great: www.parentlineplus.org.uk

    Hope that helps.

    Good luck.

  10. Dont Worry,

    Just Explain To Him

That Every Other Kid Is In The Same Postition,

I Suggest That You Make Sure Hes Safe,

Like He Has Friends With Him And Has A Mobile.

He Needs To Start Sleeping At Night Or He'll Be To Tired To Work At College.

  11. The sleeping all day is not healthy. Someone who is 16 should be sleeping about 8 hours. Going out really has changed... I would tell him to get up and hang out with you guys. Maybe make a point to go to the movies or something with him. let him pick which one to watch. I would not worry about much. He is 16. he can go out when he is ready. But no... sleeping all day is not ok.

    Good luck.

  12. A lot of teenagers stay up until late and not wake up until the afternoon. The average time should be about 8 hours though. It's good he is aware of safety but if he thinks too much about it, it might mentally affect him.

Some teenagers stay indoors often too. Perhaps he should join a group or go out with friends so it's safety in numbers.

If it gets worst, perhaps he should seek medical help to reassure you and himself.

  13. well its pretty normal for all teenagers to sleep all day my brother is 18 and also sleeps all day and stays up in the night I don't know any teenager who doesn't but what you said about him afraid to go out because of stabbing and all thats a load of bull **** unless he's g*y... he is a 16 year old boy he's hiding something from you my brother went on like that lieing to my mother and looked so innocent turns out he was doing drugs also he would never step out side the house because he had a fight with his friends but we just thought he had owed someone money I would speak to your son and ask him whats going on.

  14. what if you signed him up for a group activity or something or told him about all the good things about your town. i feel bad for him and you so best of luck.

  15. He could be suffering from depression and anxiety.
