Question:

Sensitivity?

hey,

okay. so i got my wisdom teeth taken out exactly one week ago. until now, everything was fine, but for a couple days now, my last molar tooth has been extra sensitive. i can't describe it really, but it feels like it's sticking out a bit. if i put my top teeth on my bottom teeth, i feel my last two molars touching more than any of my other teeth. i had my mom look into my mouth with a flashlight, but she said everything looks normal (i know, i know. it's not like she's a dentist).

it doesn't hurt or anything, but if the sensitivity persists for a couple more days, should i schedule an appointment with my dentist?

thanks for any answers ahead of time.

  1. You could have sensitivity because you were unable to brush in that area while healing.  It will go away, don't worry.  In the mean time you can use the toothpaste, Sensodyne.  I am not sure why you feel like your bite is different.  I guess it could be due to swelling.

  2. I'd schedule the appointment just to be sure, but it sounds like what happened with me when I had my wisdom teeth removed: my other teeth adjusted slightly to the new open space.

  3. It's probably just the sensation of no longer having the support on the other side of that molar if your wisdom tooth was against that molar previously.  But, you should get it checked out.  There could a stitch left back there or something from when they removed the wisdom teeth.  Better to be safe than sorry....and, I would of had someone do the same thing!(check it out with a flashlight).  :-)

Hope you feel better.  Take care.

  4. YOU SHOULD BE FINE IN 2 WEEKS. OFTEN DURING EXTRACTIONS TH ADJACENT TEETH ARE USED AS A FULCRUM AND THIS CAUSED THEM TO BE TRAUMATIZED.
