Question:

Sent incomplete 1040?

I had numerous issues to deal with from February - May (spouses illness, caring for another terminally ill family member, just to name a couple of things)

On April 14th I was unable to focuse on filing taxes, so I filled out the first sections of the 1040, attached the w-2's, signed at the bottom, and mailed them before midnight.

Has anyone ever done this? Will this cause a set-back in the date I can expect a refund?

  1. It will still take 6-8 weeks to process your tax return.  Hopefully, the clerk at the service center can complete you return--generally they do.

  2. The IRS will send you a letter if they need more information to process the return.

  3. It is not uncommon not to have been able to complete the tax form by the April 15 deadline.  However, you could have filed for an extension.

You should call IRS, and ask for status of return.
