Sentimental showdown: Kyle Stanley tees off at Riviera
It was no long ago when a 24-year-old Kyle Stanley was seen on media, explaining the different ways that contributed to his loss of grip on the golf course and how he was not able to secure a commendable victory and had to finally adjust with the playoff.
A week later, the entire situation has taken a completely new shape, as the winner of the Phoenix Open event, he stands with the glass trophy, smiling and contended with his performance, he was finally a winner.
However, this can just be the start of the actual challenge he will be encountering in his PGA Tour.
With the beginning of the first two rounds of the Northern Trust Open, at Riviera Open, he will be opening his tee it off campaign with Brandt Snedeker.
It is also important to mention here that Brandt is the same player who earlier defeated him at Torrey Pines.
At Riviera, Stanley has the key opportunity of avenging his defeat and proving that he has the potential of a star golf player.
Along with this, he will also be facing the recent Pebble Beach Champion, Phil Mickelson, at the tournament.
Mickelson is in terrific form at present. If Stanley really needs a breakthrough, he will definitely have to come up with some ingenious strategy to counter the putts of the Californian golfer.
Experts believe that the best thing about Stanley is that he, despite being in the midst of a fluctuation in his career, accentuates greatly on his lost games rather than the ones he has won.
"It started with the loss," Stanley said. "But I'll talk about both." He decided to take two-week's rest after the Phoenix Open and that led to his automatic non-participation in the Pebble Beach.
"I hadn't been home in four weeks," Stanley stated. "I didn't do a whole lot. My first priority was just kind of catch up on rest after the last couple of weeks. I needed it".
He believes that after achieving a victory at Phoenix, he has finally developed the momentum that can help him attain a better position in the events upcoming for him.
