Seoul all set to host the beach volleyball challenger at the end of May – Volleyball news
The South Korean Capital City Seoul is scheduled to play host to a wonderful women’s beach volleyball campaign at the end of this month.
The Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB) has officially announced that the 2012 FIVB Beach Volleyball Women’s Challenger Cup will be held in Seoul, South Korea from May 30 to June 3.
This is the second consecutive year that Seoul will serve as a host to an FIVB Beach Volleyball Women’s Challenger Cup. The city of blinding lights Seoul successfully conducted a beach volleyball tournament of the similar capacity in 2011. That is why the
International Volleyball Governing Body has selected the South Korean shores for another wonderful beach volleyball competition. Overall, the city of Seoul has hosted six FIVB events.
A total of 32 women’s duos from nine countries of the world will be on board to showcase their game skills. The participants will be competing for shared prize money of $50,000. The registration for the 2012 Seoul Women’s Beach Volleyball Challenger Cup
is open till May 16. So far eighteen teams from Australia, Austria, Spain, Finland, China, Norway, Kazakhstan, Norway, Vanuatu, and USA have been registered for the competition. More tandems are expected to get registered before the deadline of registration.
According to the set rules of the competition, one country can only send a maximum of four teams in the competition.
The German pair of Karla Borger and Britta Buthe will enter the Challenger Cup as defending champions. They downed the compatriot duo of Stefanie Huttermann and Anni Schumacher in the final showdown of the 2011 tournament. Swiss tandem of Isabelle Forrer
and Anouk Verge-Depre settled for bronze medal victory but the home duos failed to clinch any honour in the competition.
South Korea played with two teams in the previous edition of the tournament but the home duos could not profit the competitive advantage. JI-YOUN JUNG /SEULKI MOON and Eun-A LEE /EUNHYE RYU represented host country at the 2011 Seoul Women’s Challenger Cup.
Let’s wait and see if the home duos will make any different this year.
