Sep Vanmarcke undergone a successful surgery after the Tour de Wallonie Picarde-Circuit Franco-Belge crash
Sep Vanmarcke of Team Garmin-Sharp crashed during the Tour de Wallonie Picarde-Circuit Franco-Belge and was immediately transported to the hospital.
The cyclist has gone through a successful surgery for a broken collarbone after a disastrous crash during the stage 2 of the race.
"They say "you can only say you're a real cyclist, if you once broke your collarbone." Well, guess I am one... Should I be proud now??," he posted on his Twitter account.
Sep opened his 2012 winning account with a first place finish at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad 2012 and finished third at the Rogaland GP 2012.
He claimed the fifth position at the E3 Harelbeke and seventh during the Dwars door Vlaanderen and had high hopes from the Tour De Wallonie Picardie 2012.
The Belgian started the four-day race on a high note and was amongst the leading bunch that crossed the finish line during the first stage of the race.
He finished eighth after the first race and was optimistic to build up his lead in the coming stages but the crash during the 178.5 kilometre chase to Poperinge shattered all his hopes as he failed to cross the finish-line.
Marcel Kittel of Team Argos-Shimano claimed the first position with Nacer Bouhanni of Team FDJ-Big Mat, Aidis Kruopis of Team Orica-GreenEdge, Jurgen Roelandts of Team Lotto Belisol and Michael Van Staeyen of Team Topsport Vlaanderen-Mercator achieving
the next three positions.
Vanmarcke was not the only cyclist that failed to finish the second stage and as many as ten cyclists gave up the race and were transported to their respective camps.
The list of last ten cyclists that could not end the second stage of the Tour de Wallonie Picarde-Circuit Franco-Belge is as under.
