Hello friends, I work in the hospitality industry and i would like to know if can help me with this dilemma we have at work. Does anyone know how to separate stacked glasses when they get stuck. I have tried soapy cold water to separate them but that hasn't work. I have used a bit of physical force but the glasses crack. Thank you muchly if you can help.

  1. use a crowbar

  2. This happens to us all the time at work, we've learned just not to do it. The only way to get them apart is to wiggle them out. And yes, they often time to break. Try stacking them with drinking/stirring straws between them if you're stacking them when busing tables. Otherwise, when just storing them keep them separate. We've found no way to safely get them apart every time.

  3. stick something like a metal sheet in between the 2 glasses

  4. Pry apart stuck drinking glasses:

When moisture seeps in between stacked glasses, separating them can get mighty tough -- not to mention dangerous. But you can break the "ties that bond" by applying a few drops of bath oil along the sides of the glasses. Give the oil a few minutes to work its way down, then simply slide your glasses apart.

  5. You must not have worked in the hospitality industry long :)  just kidding. Holding both the inside and outside glass firmly, face the mouths of the glasses down and tap the rim of the OUTSIDE glass LIGHTLY on the bar, about 1/4 the way down from the top of the glass.  Pull gently on the inside glass at the same time.  The bottom glass should pop out sort of at an angle.

  6. Ice cold will shrink the glass... which is liquid in reality. I would say put a few ice cubes in the inside glass and have a warm washcloth on the outside glass... heat will expand the other glass.

CAUTION! Don't make the difference in temperature crazy drastic or else both glasses will explode.

You could try hot water only. That might expand the air between the glasses, and loosen the grip by expanding the air. But I don't know if there is much air between the glasses. Usually not, since they're stuck, but who knows!

  7. lie a folded towel down on the countertop, then roll the glasses using the palm of your hand.

  8. you just have to tap them on a bench or something, and wiggle them... Not all of them can be saved, but it should work most of the time...

  9. dont use soapy water just use cold water

  10. twist to the left while slightly pulling

  11. I sometimes find myself trying to pull glasses apart at work. d**n bus boys. Ive always just used a little bit of force and tried turning them a bit. I've never actually had one break on me. Did you try to pull them apart while submerging them under the water? If that doesn't work, maybe you should try to avoid stacking them.
