Question:

Separated stomach muscles post natal?

Hi, I had my first child october last year, he was a rather large 9lb 6oz baby boy. During my pregnancy I was told that my stomach muscles had separated, the midwife gave me little information and told me that afterwards I might need an operation to put them back together again. I was seeing a physio nearly every week for the first 3months, she told me that my muscles had separated by 5inches!! She gave me exercises to do, I started to do them but found that I got sciatica from doing them. The physio told me not to do them and told me to buy a toning belt. I was wondering if this had happened to anyone else and how long did it take for your muscles to go back together ad it's been 10months since I had my son and my muscles are still 2inches apart!! And did anyone else use the toning belts and how effective were they? Thank you

  1. sounds nasty. mine only separated 1 centremetre. but i was told by the midwife that there are some ladies in your situation. this is something i was never told was a possibility while the bump was growing. i wonder if there was a warning if we could have prevented it somehow?? another question to post!!! sorry not to be able to help but good luck
