  1. there's techincally a separation of church and state so there can't be an official religion, but that's about it. religion influences polititians in areas like abortion and stuff.

  2. It's that religion is a major part of our culture.  Everyone knows a bit about christianity.  Since the early day of this great country, Christian religions have vehemently preached from their pulpits for converts to their church, until now, almost everyone is christian.

There are many types of church buildings all over the country.

As for religion, all I hear is dogma, and not the practice of religion.

  3. From a lawyer.  Actually the only separation in the constitution is that there can be no laws that establish a state religion and we have freedom to worship as we please.  The government is not supposed to be able to support religion which led to banning prayer and the Bible in public schools because that would have shown favoritism to Christianity over Buddhism, Muslims, Judaism, etc.  The congress is opened every session by a minister of whatever religion is next on the list.  It's OK to have In God We Trust on our money and "God and my Country" because it doesn't specify which god.  There are flaws in it that will probably be changed and re-changed as the Supreme Court changes.  Churches can lose their federal tax exempt status if they engage in partisan politics, which is sort of a joke because they just about all do.

  4. The concept comes from the First Amendment to the Constitution which provides that:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"

This is not really a statement that government and religion are not to be linked.  Individuals are free to advocate for government policy choices that may be influence by religion - capital punishment and abortion are two obvious examples.  The only restriction is on the government not the individual.

  5. 1. NO

    2. Marriage is a fundamental part of our society, whether we like it or not. Every form you fill out has a place for "mother and father" and assumes that the two are not only married but of opposite s*x.

    3. I had to answer whether or not I was married in order to get a driver's license, register to vote, get a passport, etc.
