Seperation anxiety???

My 2 year old son is throwing a fit everytime I leave the room. He wants to go everywhere with me. I can't take a shower or go to the bathroom by myself and when he gets in the bath, he screams until I get in with him. He also wont sleep in his bed anymore, he wants to sleep in mine. I feel like I am doing something wrong everytime I leave him, but sometimes I just want a moment to myself. Is this normal? Anybody know what to do?

  1. I had the same problem with my youngest daughter. You can try diverting his attention with some activities and at the same time explain and assure him that you are just round the corner, would be back in just a minute. I used to on TV cartoon shows for her and will tell her that I need to get a drink from the kitchen. I will then take a slightly longer time to get myself a drink back to the living room and show it to her; just as i promised... Get a drink and back in a minute. After sometime, she began to get used playing on her own when I need to do house chores.

  2. yes it is normal, but there will come a time where you might just have to let your son cry a little otherwise he will permanently be in your bed and there goes your s*x life

  3. My neighbor's son was like that. I would watch him and he would cry from the time his mom left until the time she got home. Maybe you could leave him with a babysitter for a couple hours a couple days a week. That way he can get used to being without you. It will be really hard for him (and you!) the first few times, but it will get easier. Make sure it's family or someone he knows really well, so it's not so traumatizing for him.
