Sepoy to take lead of the Dubai Golden Shaheen by bouncing back into form on 31st March at Meydan
The Grade 1, US $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen Sponsored By Gulf News is one of the major highlights for the 31st of March card. There are twelve three-year and older contestants up for taking the profitable challenge. The race will be held over
six miles at Meydan.
One of the major excitements on the lineup is the four-year-old Sepoy, the highest rated sprinter in the world with his three-year-old career comprising of an impeccable unbeaten record.
The race has brought an emotional moment for the trainer, Peter Snowden, who has groomed the trotting beauty into a champion and will be saddling the horse for the last time as Sepoy puts on the blue colours for Godolphin today for the first time.
Peter Snowden also trained the Darley bred Helmet, who is not the part of the lineup for the Dubai Golden Shaheen.
“Sepoy did one lap on Tuesday and sprinted up the last 600m, breaking 22 seconds for the final 400 metres. He came back good and his wind was quite good too. “He’s the proven campaigner in the field. He’s got the talent and is a seasoned horse,”
“But there will be good speed in the race. That should give us an opportunity to sit off the speed.”
The only thing that the four-year-old has learned out of his racing career is to win and intimidate the lineup with been sent as a favourite a multiple times, just the season’s opening came as a bit of a disappointment but has not impacted the spirits of
the connections for considering Sepoy to be the strongest contender on the lineup.
Another entry who is unbeaten in six out of the eight outings that he made is Giant Ryan, Freud’s six-year-old bay gelding out of mare Kheyrah. As is the case with Sepoy, Giant Ryan stumbled towards an unfortunate finishing in the last start of the previous
season. The only difference is between the seasons they lost tracks of victories in.
Russian Rock has sustained performance during the last two outings that he undertook at Jebel Ali while Krypton Factor is up to confusing and entertaining the crowds and connections with his first and then second position in the last four starts that came
his way.
The Factor trained by Bob Baffert, exited from the 2011 season and stepped into his new campaign with a victory right under his belt. He was sent as a favourite both the times and is trying his luck through the second start of the season today.
