Wolfsgang Niersbach is delighted that the FIFA President removed the ambiguity relating to his statement about corruption in Germany.
The President of the German FA has guaranteed that his association will not further look into the matter and no action will be taken against Sepp Blatter. This resulted when Blatter claimed that the 2006 World Cup was awarded to
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Germany-c2904 due to corruption, but recently cleared the air by denying that the vote was rigged.
Niersbach appreciated the clarification of Blatter through the German Newspaper Bild that the German Football Federation was not under any circumstances involved in corruption or anything of the sort. Furthermore, he stressed that
Blatter should have come clean earlier, and that the allegations were baseless.
Secondly, Niersbach confirmed that they will not pursue this situation anymore, as it is not their duty to take appropriate action and that the right thing for Blatter would be to retire himself from the duties of FIFA President.
He stressed only the Congress have the authority to strip him off his duties.
"I am happy he set things straight and that he did not want to imply anything. His first comments were completely wrong. He should have acted how he did now in the first place. There will not be any initiative from DFB to force
Blatter to step down. He can only be dismissed by the congress. Or he can stand down himself."
Lastly, Niersbach seemed content with the introduction of the ethics committee, which will examine the corruption cases of the past, present and the future. The need of the committee arised when news came out that the former Fifa
chief Joao Havelange and few other senior members had collected bribes from sports firm International Sport and Leisure.
"This ethics committee has the clear mission to examine these issues with the ISL, that is the right step. It is good to clear up these things from the past."
Sepp Blatter`s initial statement was controversial and the German FA were furious with him because of that. Therefore, Blatter`s clarification and the confirmation of no wrong doing from the German authorities will definitely have
a positive impact.
