The former Bayern Munich shot stopper has rated Germany as favourites to win the upcoming European championship.
Sepp Maier reckons that Germany have a decent chance of lifting the European crown this season despite being placed in the ‘Group of Death’. Die Mannschaft have been placed in Group B alongside Portugal, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denmark-c2884 and the Netherlands.
The legendary Bayern star accepts the fact that Germany find themselves in a difficult group but is backing them to progress from the preliminary round. He believes that Die Mannschaft might not face any problems once they clear
the group phase.
While talking to a sports website, Goal.com, the 68-year-old shot stopper further added:
"They have a good chance to become European champions if they get through the group stages. Germany have been drawn in what is by far the strongest group."
Maier insisted that national team manager, Joachim Low, has done a great http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 since taking over from Jurgen Klinsmann in 2006. He applauded Low’s method and acknowledged the way he led his side last year where Germany remained unbeaten
and also defeated http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 after a long wait of 15 years.
The former goalkeeper revealed that Low already had different plans in his mind while he was assisting Klinsmann. He mentioned that the former Stuttgart boss has handled things efficiently and certainly has the ability to propel
Germany to lift the European title.
"I was there when Jurgen Klinsmann was in charge, but Low was doing all the work already back then. I knew that things would go like this when Klinsmann left. You could already see that Low would continue the great work," Maier
concluded.
Low took over from Klinsmann in 2006 after serving as his assistant for two years. The manager led the DFB-Eleven to a third place finish in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and to the final of the 2008 European championship.
If Low is able to lead Germany to lift this year’s European crown, it will be the first time since 1996 that Die Mannschaft would lift any major trophy. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 on June 9.
