E. Mediterranean 12 day cruise mid Sept on Grand Princess. Cruise departs Rome ends in Venice. We need to add lodging at each place in order to sightsee before boarding ship in Rome and later returning home from Venice via Rome airport. Lodging: where is the best economical place to stay and be near attractions? Don't need all the bells and whistles, just bed, perhaps air conditioning. Touring Rome: best way to see the highlights in 1 1/2 days? On our own, or city tour and if tour, what do you recommend? Getting from Rome lodging to port? 5 of us: better to hire private car? What do you suggest and who do you suggest we use? Venice: lodging and attractions. What do you suggest? Getting from Venice back to Rome FCO airport for 2. What do you suggest? Any recommendations you have regarding before, after and during the Grand Princess E. Med Cruise would be greatly appreciated. THX! Arrive FCO 9/10 8am. Ship departs 9/11 7pm. End Venice 9/23 9am. 2 of us fly home via FCO 9/25 10am. HELP!

In Rome you can stay at the "House of Trinitarian Fathers" near the Vatican and the Vatican station. The prices are low and the service excellent.

In Venice you can accommodate the "Locanda dei Saints John and Paul" even there prices and excellent service....
