Its that time of year again when spiders are all over the house! Im in the uk so im not talking about anything major, but i am absolutely terrified of them.

Iv already encountered some of the big ones already and its really bothering me!

I cant go to bed without shaking my quilts, looking under the pillows, checking behind my curtains... when i wake up and go for a shower i have to check in the bath and shake the shower curtain! Im terrible!

What can I do to get over this? I can't live life with this phobia, especially now my boyfriend is working away for the week.

  1. haha.. are you talking about the big European house spiders that are fuzzy brown and have really long legs? A friend of mine over in the UK says he gets them in the bathroom quite often!  A lot of ppl are afraid of spiders don't feel bad or anything or think you're being overly paranoid, I would probably do that too! I hate spiders myself and I'm sure glad we don't have real big ones over here! But we DO have big house centipedes over here! As far as getting over it I guess I'm sorry to say I don't really have any good advice on that, but don't let your fear of them bother you to make it any worse.. and again, don't feel bad many ppl are afraid of them as they are very creepy!

  2. aw! its hard i know, but don't worry, don't look for them, they are harmless, to help leave cobwebs about , gives new spiders less rm to habitat, get a cat they like them,

just don't panic you will be fine

    good luck

  3. Yeah, spiders are really horrible :( It's just the big ones i don't like... I am wearily able to get rid of the small to medium sized one. Anything big in my room i feel like moving house is the easiest option :P

  4. It's awful, i saw a huge saucer sized one on my wall and had to bribe the hubby to get it down, it's horrible.  I can't wait until it's over!!!

  5. i'm the same, and your right - September does seem to be spider season. It's not ideal but have you tried one of those 'spider vacs'? it's a long see through tube with a handle which has a button which when you press it activates a suction which you can then suck up the spider, shake it down into the tube then when you can shake it out of a window you can stop pressing the button and the spider falls out to (hopefully) never darken your door again! Or do as a girl I once knew did and spray them with hairspray - thats a bit cruel tho!

  6. Omg! You are the exact same as me! I just got my brother to kill a massive one that i saw crawling into my bedroom! i hate them!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. I know exactly how you feel. I live in the **** hole of nowhere in the middle of the countryside and i'm also plagued by little black beetles. Fast wee buggers too and my brave big Rottweiler is terrified of them and the cat just ignores them!

  8. i hate them b******s!

  9. Get a spider catcher.  There's plenty of them out there.

Spiders get rid of all the nasty flies & other bugs in your house so learn to 'make friends' with them.  House spiders will run away when you approach them.

  10. For god's sake woman get a grip on things.Imagine if you had a rat and the boyfriend was away, you'd be frothing at the mouth.

  11. AAHHH. I hate the things. I don't know how to get over your fear but there are these electric things you plug in and it keeps them at bay. It messes with there heads they cant sleep or eat or do anything. It doesn't kill them they just run out of your house! It's for allot of pests. However beware they all come out at once, you get allot when you first put it in as they all come out of there hiding places trying to escape but that will die down and you will get very few. Sorry I don't now what there called, these aren't the ones we have but its an example http://www.electronicpestrepeller.com/el... .

Sorry about this but I couldn't help my self. Did you know in an average persons life time you eat about 7 spiders! Sorry I thought you should no, if you didn't already.

  12. Vacuum them up, hairspray. I also keep the windows shut and just have room fans on for ventilation.  then when its cold enough I stop panicing!

I also practice throwing things - so I can chuck books on them and squish them.....

  13. I can't go to bed without checking there are no worms under my quilt! I am extremely phobic of them even though I know they won't do anything, but you can never be sure! If someone ever finds out the answer to this question, I would really like to know.

  14. Join the club - my husband works away during the week and I'm left to quake and cope on my own.  We have an air brick behind the corner where our TV is (which I've covered with everything from cling film to stockings!), and the monsters that come strolling out from under there are unreal!  I sit every night only half watching the screen of the TV - my other eye is permanently trained on the carpet!

I too absolutely dread September, but this year there seems to have been a more steady stream of the little buggers all year round.  That said, the most ginormous monster came thudding out from under the TV last week - I swear if it could, it would have been waving flags and celebrating the opening season of the spider 2008 olympics!

I have no idea what's to be done, but take heart from the knowledge you MOST definitely aren't alone in your fears!

  15. Hey, I'm a big strong man and I hate them as well!

They just seem so unnatural and creepy.

I have 2 stories regarding spiders from this week alone...

    1) I was in my kitchen reading a paper and I became aware of this pattering noise... I looked to see where it was coming from and this HUGE spider was running straight for my feet!!

I kid ye not, it was massive - so big that I heard it before I saw it.... :(

    2) My sister has a web with a medium sized orange crab-like spider outside her front door. Her husband was curious and poked it with a key and the spider became very agressive and attacked the key... :(

My stories will do nothing to help your fear of them, but at least you know we understand your fear and sympathise with you!

  16. Every season is spider season! We are surrounded and outnumbered and there isn't alot we can do about it.  I spray, hose down the house and even use a shop-vac to get rid of them, but they are always there!
