Question:

Sequential Spelling. Has anybody used?

My daughter is an amazingly bad speller. We have tried several strategies to no avail. We presently use the Natural Speller as our base. She habitually mixes up letters and adds extra ones.

Has anyone used Sequential Spelling as recommended by Sonlight? Would it be better for my problem speller?

  1. It is the best spelling program on the market.  I would highly suggest it to anyone.  It is very different than anything you will ever see, but it works.  It's just wonderful.

If you decide against that, look at natural speller.  I like the AVKO better, but Natural Speller is the next best.

  2. We use it! My daughter was at first overwhelmed because they test and have new words everyday. But I told her not to stress over it. We just go over the list and that's it! I can't say yet if she is benefiting from it yet as we have only gotten to about day 5. Spelling isn't a priority that gets done everyday. We plan on hitting it harder at the end of next school year because we started Sonlight again in February.

My sister has had success with it and she has 3 dyslexic kids.

  3. My younger sister uses it , she's ten, and can now spell better than her thirteen year old brothers.  But they're also using it, so I suppose it doesn't work for everyone.

I would recommend using Spelling Power.  I used it back in 4-5th grade, and I really liked using it.  It's a little bit more work, but all the exercises helped me out immensely.

  4. We used it.   It worked for two of my kids but not the other.

I finally got to the point that we don't do a spelling curiculum but instead just learn words as they need them.   For us it works better.
