Serbia beats Korea 3-0 to secure 13th slot: FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship
Serbia and Korea met in a fixture on Sunday, July 31st, that marked the final day of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship that were taking place in Callao, Peru. The match between the two sides was held to decide the 13th
position holder in the tournament and after a competition that went on for three sets, the Serbian team emerged as victors.
The victory that the Serbians achieved after making a sweep over their opponents was fairly one sided. The Koreans could not significantly challenge the Serbians and lost each set of the match by a large margin. The Serbians sealed the deal on the 13th
slot of the tournament by winning the match at the following final set scores: 25-19, 25-16 and 25-18.
The Serbian head coach spoke at a press conference after his team had clinched victory and said, “Today, we play with a team who work really hard in defense and not was easy to win. I talked all the match to my players to stay in focus in order to win. Finally,
we can celebrated a victory today.”
On the other hand, the Korean coach expressed himself in the following words: “We try to return to our home wining one more game, but we couldn’t for this reason we are felling really sad. In the other hand, It was my first opportunity to work with this
team, I´m sure that the next competition we will do better.”
The start of the first set of the game was thrilling as both the teams played equally well. However, as the game progressed, the Serbians came out as the stronger side. The Serbians were in a leading position both at the first as well as the second technical
time out and they were able to close the opening set of the game with a 25-19 score.
The Asian team did not give up after a set loss and took the lead in the second set of the game at 4-0 but the Serbians did not let the Koreans get away with the advantage and charged ahead of their rivals. After the Serbs had the lead, they did not relinquish
it and led all the way through the set until they concluded their rally at 25-16.
Starting the third one with a two set deficit, the Koreans stepped up their game in the third and rallied together to give themselves a chance at winning the match. The blocking of the Korean team improved but it was not enough to stop the Serbians from
taking control of the set. The Serbians were able to register a win at 25-18.
The player that was able to make the most points for the Serbians was Ljubica Kecman, who tallyed 18. On the Korean side, Kim Ji-Soo and Kim Eon-Hye stood prominent by registering nine points each.
