Serbia bulldozes Egypt 3-0 in a FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship match
Serbia went up against the Egyptians on Wednesday, July 27th, in the second round of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship that is currently taking place in Peru. The city of Trujillo saw the Pool H teams go one on one as Serbia
emerged victors through a clean sweep.
The first set of the match was fairly one sided and the also Serbians smothered the Egyptians in the second set. However, the Egyptian team showed a lot of fighting spirit by taking the third set of the match to the last point but could not turn the tables
as the Serbian side won the match at the following final set scores: 25-16, 25-5 and 29-27.
The Egyptian coach, Mohamed Ahmed, made the following statements at the press conference after his team had lost the match: “I’m proud of the third set yesterday we were asked how we felt about losing the previous matches, we answered that we were going
to give a great show in the next matches and I think that despise we lost we accomplished what we proposed. The main cause of losing is the lack of experience and that our team is quite young and nervous. We’ll get better as the days go by”
On the other hand, the Serbian coach, Ratko Pavlicevic, expressed himself in the following manner: “We played a tight match, we were aware that we have an important responsibility, I expect tomorrow to play better and to get in the next round.”
The Egyptian team fought with all their heart in the opening set of the match but the Serbians had a height advantage that the Egyptians found hard to overcome. The Egyptian player that was able to keep up the spirit of her team was Yasmin Hussein. She made
the most points among both teams in the first set but the Serbians won it at 25-16.
The Serbians played tough in the second set of the game and took the lead of 14-1 almost instantly. The Egyptians looked hopelessly on as the Serbians managed to finish the second set in 17 minutes by bagging it at 25-5.
The loss of t he second set in such a decisive manner seemed to trigger a comeback from the Egyptians, who battled on to take the lead at 11-8. Despite the fact that the Serbians managed to overtake their rivals, the Egyptians got the lead again at 20-14.
However, it was the Serbian side that finally secured the third set at 29-27.
The Serbian team has been able to improve their record and stand in the second place in Pool H whereas the Egyptians have yet to get a win in the second round of the tournament. The first place in Pool H belongs to the Russians.
