City of Piatra Neamt in Romania played host to another wonderful match of the 2012 CEV Volleyball European League on Saturday, where powerhouse Serbia defeated Hungary in straight sets and improved to 11-0 in the tournament.
Serbian women’s national team displayed a spectacular show of volleyball and claimed 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-14) win over Hungary in 71 minutes.
Serbian scoring machines, Milena Rasic and Maja Savic, worked out an amazing performance and added 15 points apiece. The two of them shared the top-scorer’s position in the match. The Hungarian team failed to overcome the strong opponent and none of the
players could go into double-figure score. Zsanett MIKLAI was the highest scorer for Hungary with only nine points.
Serbian team opened the match on an extremely high note and jumped to 8-0 lead at the first technical timeout. Rasic and Savic stormed opponents’ half with groundbreaking shots and dragged them under huge pressure. Hungarian ladies managed to break the ice
after the FTT and added a couple of points. However, Serbia kept the lead in hand and improved to 16-7 at the second mandatory stop. Serbs dominated the scene and comfortably secured opening set at 25-22.
The second set had some sort of symmetry with the previous set as Serbia added a flurry of points and led the score at first technical timeout (8-1). Hungary relied on the duo of Gréta Szakmary and Rita Liliom in the second set, which put up good struggle,
but still could not manage to bring their team out of the blues. Serbian ladies continued with success and improved to 2-0 by winning second frame with eight points (25-17). Serbia’s success in the second set was mainly credited to Bianka Busa, Milena Rasic
and Maja Savic, who played amazingly well.
With two sets in the hand, Serbia was totally in shape to finish the match in third set. Hungarian players, who seemed visibly exhausted, could not sustain the pressure and dropped too many easy shots. In the meantime, Serbia rallied from 8-2 to 16-7. Hungarian
squad could score only 14 points when Serbia hit the match points (25-14).
In the next run, Serbia is scheduled to play its last match of the League Round against hosts Romania. This is surely going to be a thrilling encounter as Romania will have the competitive edge of playing at home and will try to break the winning streak
of Serbs. On the other hand, Hungary will play its last match against Spain on Sunday.
