Serbia defeats Argentina in FIVB Women Volleyball World Grand Prix – Volleyball news
The first Pool H match of the 2012 FIVB Women Volleyball World Grand Prix took place on June 15, 2012 in the Serbian city of Belgrade.
The match saw the home team contest with the Argentineans in a exciting clash that went on for four sets. At the end of the day, the Serbians were able to make their fans proud by defeating Argentina 3-1.
The first three sets of the match went close but the Argentineans seemed to have lost their spirit in the fourth set as the home team was able to dominate the frame throughout. The score board showed the following final set scores: 25-23, 23-25, 25-22 and
25-17.
The coach of the Serbian team, Zoran Terzic, expressed his feelings at the win by making the following comments, “The volleyball fans here have to understand that quality volleyball is played all over the world...Overall, we are not satisfied with tonight’s
match. In the end, we had 11 points more, and Argentina had 11 total errors.”
On the other hand, the Argentinean coach, Horacio Bastit, shared his views by giving the following statements, “Sometime you win, sometime you lose, but the important thing is to find positive things from each match and further improve. Serbia played well
tonight, especially in block and in attack, as all European teams do.”
The lead went to Argentina in the opening frame of the game and they stuck with the advantage till the second technical time out. However, the home team was not about t give up easily and managed to close in the gap at 20-19. The two teams stayed head to
head for some time but the Serbians prevailed in securing the first frame of the game at 25-23.
The Argentineans started the second set with determination and they were able to see it through till the end at 25-23. The Serbians were leading the third set at 16-14 and did not let go of it till they had bagged it at 25-22.
The fourth set came easy for the home team as the Argentineans did not put up a significant challenge. The Argentineans kept the score close only up till 16-15, with Serbia in the lead. However, they started trailing behind as Serbia went on to win at 25-17.
