Serbia defeats Cuba by 3-1 in FIVB Boy’s Youth World Championship match
The Serbians were able to get to the semi-finals of the FIVB Boy’s Youth World Championship on August 25th after they bagged a match played against the Cubans in Bahia Blanca, Argentina, by 3-1.
The match took four sets to reach its close with both teams fighting hard for a win. Despite the fact that the Cubans lost the match, they put up a good show in the opening set and secured a win. The second set saw the Serbians outperform their rivals but
the Cubans put up quite a challenge to the Serbians in the third set. The fourth set was dominated by Serbia and it came as no surprise when Serbia won the match at the following final set scores: 22-25, 25-19, 25-23 and 25-15.
The coach of the Serbian team, Milan Djuricic, made the following comments at the press conference conducted after his team had won the match: “This was a tough game for both teams. All players were tired so it is difficult to play in a high level. I think
we deserved to pass to the semi finals.”
On the other hand, the Cuban coach Rodolfo Sanchez shared his feelings in this manner: “They played very good we had a great performance during the two first sets but could not take advantage when we tied at 23-all in the third set. We are still alive, and
we hope to win tomorrow 3-0 or 3-1.”
Cuba had the lead at the start of the opening set but the Serbians were able to overtake their opponents at the second technical time out at 16-14. The Cubans stepped up their game and were eventually able to bag the frame at 25-22.
The second set saw Serbia leading at the first as well as the second technical time out at 8-4 and 16-11 respectively. Cuba could not do much except trial behind all the way till Serbia had secured a win at 25-19.
Cuba stepped up their game in the third set and took the lead at 8-7 but Serbia got the advantage at 16-15. The match kept going back and forth from then on but ended on Serbian terms at 25-23.
The fourth set of the match saw the Serbians leading from the start to the finish at 25-15 with the Cubans not providing any challenge.
