Serbia defeats Egypt by 3-1 in a 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup match - Volleyball news
The Serbian national men’s volleyball team met with their Egyptian counterparts today, December 2, in Tokyo, Japan, where the 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup is being played. The match was a part of the first day of the fourth round of the tournament and the Serbians
walked away with a 3-1 at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.
The first set saw both the teams come out strong but as the frame reached its final stages, the Serbians were able to push themselves forwards and bag the opening set win. The loss of the first set did not sit well with the Egyptians and they rallied themselves
together to improve their performance in the second frame. As a result, Egypt was able to equalise the match by winning the second set.
The third set saw both the teams fighting hard for dominance and they stayed neck to neck with each other all through the length of the frame. But the Brazilians put on a spurt of speed in the end and got hold of the third set. The Egyptians did not give
in the fourth set and put on a valiant effort that made it difficult for the Brazilians to earn a win but Brazil was able to end the match on their terms at the following final set scores: 25-20, 19-25, 25-22 and 28-26.
The coach of the Serbian team Igor Kolakovic expressed himself at the press conference conducted after the match in the following words: “I’d like to thank the Egyptian coach for the nice words. This was such a long game for me. I’m satisfied because we
could win a very early morning game. Tomorrow we expect the same as today, and I hope we win too. Egypt played well, and we played with patience so I’m glad we took the game in the end.”
On the other hand, the coach of the losing team, Sherif El-Shemerly, shared his views by making the following comments: “First I would like to congratulate the coach of team Serbia, but good luck for the next matches for my team and today. We still have
some problems in our blocking and in our defensive system...I hope in the next two matches we can become better and better.”
