Serbia defeats Korea by 3-0 in a 2011 FIVB World Cup match - Volleyball
The 2011 FIVB World Cup Women’s tournament has started off today, November 4, in Japan. The matches are being held in Hiroshima and Nagano. One of the opening matches that took place in Nagano saw the Serbians clash with the Koreans. The contest between
the two sides did not take long to conclude as the Serbians were able to come out on the winning end by making a clean sweep over their opponents.
Despite the fact that the Koreans lost to the Serbians in three back to back frames, they did not go down without putting up a good fight. The first set of the match was long and hard with each side putting up a good show. However, it was the Serbians that
finally managed to bag the opening frame. The second set was a bit less fierce as the Serbians and the Koreans stayed neck to neck with each other until the end when Serbia pulled off another set win. The third set of the match went on the same pattern as
the second set with the Serbians finally winning the match at the following final set scores: 27-25, 25-22 and 25-22.
The coach of the Serbian team, Zoran Terzic, expressed himself in the following manner at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close: “I can be very satisfied with the result because we won 3-0. About the game, we didn’t expect
to play so well due to many reasons. We started the season in May and after the European League, the Grand Prix and European Championship, it’s a difficult seven months.”
On the other hand, the Korean coach Kim Hyung-Sil, shared his views by giving the following statements: “First I want to wish a quick recovery for the player who got injured. Today, we experienced the strong Serbian team and we can see why they won the European
Championship, but the main reason we lost today is because we couldn’t receive very well.”
The first set of the match started off with a Serbian three point lead which they were able to extend till 11-7. However, the Koreans did not let them get too far and tied the match at 15-15. The match reached another tie at 23-23 but it was the Serbian
squad that bagged a win at 27-25.
The second set began with a Korean lead at 4-0 that they were able to extend till 7-2. However, the Serbians pushed themselves back into the game by taking the lead at 19-18. As the set reached its close, the Serbians got the frame at 25-22.
The third set was almost level at 15-14 in Serbia’s favour but after that point, the Serbs sped up and bagged a win at 25-22.
