Serbia defeats Spain in a Pool C CEV match
A Pool C CEV Volleyball Champions League match took place recently in Beograd, Serbia. The two teams that displayed their skills at the “Sumice” sports hall were the home team of Partizan Termoelektro BEOGRAD as well as CAI TERUEL of Spain.
The match between the two sides was long and competitive as it went on to five long and gruelling sets at the end of which the home team was able to end up on the winning side.
The recent win has enabled the BEOGRAD squad to earn their first win in the tournament. The victory was well deserved as it was achieved at the following final set scores: 25-18, 25-27, 25-23, 17-25 and 15-12.
The coach of the Serbian team, Milan Djuricic, expressed himself in the following words after the match had reached its close, “We went for an all or nothing mission in the fifth set after missing our chance in set 4. Tactically we were well prepared to
play this rival.”
On the other hand, the Spanish coach shared his views by giving the following statements, “They played better in attack and reception and we did not have any solution to stop their opposite Minic.”
The player that was able to score the most points in the entire match was the Serbian player, Aleksandar Minic with a total of 30 points. He was helped by his teammate Nikola Mijailovic who made his presence felt by adding 20 points of his own. The most
active player on the Spanish side was Miguel Sugranes with 16 points in all.
The first set of the match saw the Serbians take the lead early on at 8-6 and extend the advantage to 16-10. After that point, it was only a matter of time before the home team was able to earn itself the opening set of the game 25-18.
The second set saw the Spanish take the lead initially at 8-7 then at 16-14 and after a tough battle, they were able to equalize the match at 27-25.
The third frame favoured the home team but the Spanish were able to turn the tables yet again and make the match reach a fifth set which eventually was also won by the home team after an impressive display of volleyball.
