Serbia defeats U.S. by 3-1 in a London Volleyball Invitational encounter – Volleyball news
On Wednesday, July 20th, the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball team had their first match of the London Volleyball Invitational against the Serbian contingent. The contest took four long and grueling sets before Serbia declared a 3-1 victory over
the U.S.
The London Volleyball Invitational is currently taking place in Earls Court, London. The venue is also the spot where the indoor volleyball Olympics tournament is scheduled to take place next year.
The U.S. team took advantage by nailing the first set of the game pretty easily. However, the second set was played by the Serbians confidently and their determination led them to a second set win. The third set was fairly one sided as it saw the Americans
struggling all through. The fourth set of the game ignited the sparks in the U.S. Unfortunately, the effort came in too late from the American side and the Serbians closed the match by winning it, 16-25, 25-17, 25-16 and 26-24.
The first set of the match saw the U.S. squad take the lead early on and keep their dominance all through. The Serbians could not do anything more than play catch up in the entire set which saw the Americans bag it at 25-16. However, the second set of the
game saw the opposite happen as the Serbians took the lead at the start of the set and never trailed till they had sealed the deal on it at 25-17. The third set saw a bit more fighting spirit in the American squad as they were able to pull up from a deficit
and come into a leading position at 10-9 after the first technical time out. But the Serbians were not about to give up and overtook the Americans to grab themselves the third set at 25-16. The Americans were going strong till the second technical timeout
at 16-12 in the fourth set and even later in the game at 21-19 but Serbia put on a spurt of speed, taking them all the way to a win at 26-24.
Despite the fact that the U.S. lost the match, Evan Patak was able to lead all players by registering the highest number of points. Patak tallied a total of 22 points which were made by posting 18 kills, two blocks and two service aces.
On the Serbian side, Milos Nikic was able to tally the highest number of points for his team by scoring 19.
