Serbia enters Final Four of the FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship - Volleyball
The Serbians have earned their ticket into the top four teams of the FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship by defeating Poland 3-1 on August 18 at the Baskent Sports Hall in Ankara, Turkey.
The first set of the match started off in tight game play but as the game progressed, Serbia was seen dominating the courts that eventually led them to win the opening set. The Polish responded in the second set by equalising the match after an intense struggle
between both teams. The third set was also competitive with no one sure where the tables would turn until the very end. However, it was the Serbians that were able to seal the deal on the third set and win the fourth one as well. The final set scores displayed
by the score board at the end of the match were as follows: 25-19, 24-26, 26-24 and 25-21.
The coach of the Serbian team, Milan Grsic, gave the following statements at the press conference after the match had ended: “I’m proud of my team. It was not an easy situation for both teams today with a match featuring a lot of suspense and emotions.”
The Polish coach, Andrzej Pec, shared his views in this manner: “Congratulations to Serbia. Recovery was short after yesterday’s epic match versus Brazil. Therefore we missed some physical power to overcome the strong Serbian squad.”
The opening set started off as a struggle but Poland was able to get the advantage at 13-9. Unfortunately for Poland, they could not hold on to the lead and lost it to the Serbians at 16-21. After this point, the Serbians did not look back and marched on
ahead to win the initial set at 25-19.
The second set remained competitive for the most part and the score was still tied at 14-14 but the Serbians managed to get an advantage at 16-14 that they were able to extend until 19-16. Poland was not ready to give up just yet and they levelled the score
at 24-24 that eventually led to a 26-24 win for Poland.
The third set saw the Serbians leading at 12-7 but Poland snatched it away from them at 15-12. The set remained competitive throughout but ended in favour of the Serbians at 26-24. The fourth set of the match was dominated by the Serbians most of the time
and they were able to seal the deal on it with ease at 25-21.
The Serbians have been able to tally a perfect record of 3-0 in the second round of the tournament while the Polish squad is cradling a 1-2 record with their recent defeat.
