Serbia fast-tracked into EU?NO WAY!?

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - European Union leaders, worried that Kosovo's push for independence could trigger instability in the Balkans, were set to offer Serbia a fast-track route to joining the bloc at a summit on Friday.

Does anyone remember the massacre the Serbs carried out at Srebrenica, or the concentration camps and widespread rape and torture at Omarska?

But finally, Serbia is as yet to hand over two of the most wanted war criminals in the world - Karadzic & Mladic - who were responsible for the deaths of thousands of non-serbs during the Yugoslav conflict via their policy of ethnic cleansing.

And it is proposed to fast-track them into the EU? I find that disgusting. They should not be let in at all. AND they should recognise the independence of Kosovo.

But what is your opinion?

  1. The EU is letting in countries well before they have got up to 'standard'. This I believe is detrimental for all. Countries like Serbia need to get themselves near to western European standards before they can join...

I used to be very Pro-Europe but now under what the EU have been doing my views are changing very fast.

  2. I suspect that any limit on new members to the EU, will be based more on worries about economics and relocation of jobs than any humanitarian reasons.

Depressing maybe, but that's the world we live in.

  3. the EU is alive with criminal activity. why do you think they refuse to have the books checked. and why do you think low life crooks like MP's are all making a B line to force Britain to join.....they will be on a huge gravy train from two directions and WONT have answer for any thing they do. SO they will all be at home with murderers and crooks wont they....they say that Tony Blair is up for the top job in the EU and he is a proven liar!! who's lies lead directly to the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of innocent people. Serbia will fit in nicely i think.

  4. I do agree with you, but the war is over. How long should a country be punished for wrongs it commited in the past?? It's not fair to punish the whole population for what their leaders did.  I think they should be forced to hand over any wanted war criminals first though!!

  5. Re your question about harbouring war criminals. I don't believe for one second that those in high powered positions in the US and the EU don't know the whereabouts of Karadzic and Mladic - I mean come on! It's politics we're talking about. Whether Serbia is refusing to hand them over or not...they all know where these guys are.

Re Ern T mentioning that allowing Serbia into the EU may teach them how to behave...let's think about this for a sec

Yes, ethnic tensions in Yugoslavia were not something that rose to prominence only in the early 1990s. What kept the country together was good management under Tito. When Tito passed away, it was states like the US who used these ethnic tensions to incite war among the Yugoslav people and then reap the rewards. A weak Balkan region is a good way to keep Russia in check, wouldn't you say?

  6. As you pointed out they're worried about Kosovo's

bid for independence. Anything to try and prevent another ethnic bloodbath, eh? I share your sentiments but considering how volitile they are in that region what is the answer? At least, if they join the Union it might be the first step in learning how to behave, they'll have rules to abide by.

  7. Dear Robin, I guess you would be surprised to see that majority of serbian citizens wouldn't trade Kosovo for entering EU, and they are the ones who would say no way too.

Who is behind disintegration of ex Yugoslavia is really big question, and  the ones who think they are entitled to trade with Serbian land and destiny are wrong. That dirty trade with other's people territory is what I find disgusting, actually (maybe it's heritage from colonial times or something, and I don't remember who ever was punished for that? What are Serbs compared to that?)

You should really get your acts together before posting personal political views here. Even wikipedia is a good start for the ones like you. Than you can improve your knowledge by time. User who was kind enough to give you "alternative" link is way ahead, I am afraid. You need to start with basics.

No way, Robin, that you can even discuss about this subject.

    No way.

  8. yeah but Hitler killed 6 million people

Napolean killed many as did Mussolini

but no one argues about Germany,France or Italy being in the EU

    times change

  9. I agree that fast-tracking Serbia into the EU is out of the question...

But don't try and suggest that only Serbs were responsible for massacres and genocide during that horrific war.

In fact ALL sides, Muslim, Croatian and Serbian engaged in terrible acts of revenge, rape, murder, and genocide.

In the long term, the whole point of the EU is to increase stability and avoid war, so, in the LONG TERM, I hope to see both Kosovo and Serbia as separate member nations of the EU ...

So I agree with you - NO FAST TRACKING - but in the long term, let's hope we can stabilize the region by having them all in the EU (once Karadic and Mladic are in jail of course!)

If you want a more balanced perspective on the war, please read the books by Milos Stankovic, Martin Bell and others ...

Trusted Mole by Stankovic was the only book that truly helped me understand the Bosnian Holocaust and what caused it plus the failures of the West that didn't prevent it!

  10. You are very misinformed. But I don't blame you, because western media has a nasty habit of presenting Serbs and many others in a bad way.

The so called Srebrenica "massacre" is a complete lie,but a lie that the whole world has heard of.Unfortunately, nobody heard how Muslim soldiers slaughtered Serbian civilians (including women and children) at Kravice village before Srebrenica. So,what happened at Srebrenica was a simple payback.Serbian army found the muslim soldiers who did the crimes at Kravice and shot them.Since they tried to infiltrate among civilians,Muslims presented it as crime against muslim civilians. In fact, they were nothing but criminals, who were trying to hide from justice, which finally got them.

As for Karadzic and Mladic, they were simple soldiers doing their job.Since they were on the "wrong side" world likes to present them as war criminals. In fact, they protected Serbian civilians from Muslim extremists and Croatian n***s.

And finally, don't be so assured that we do want to enter the EU.The EU that causes so much evil to us,the EU that wants to take Kosovo from us,the EU that is letting Muslims terrorizing us,the EU that imposes sanctions over us for defending ourselves...No thanks,we don't need EU.

P.S.Don't let media brainwash you,you can't judge one side without hearing it's side of story.Serbia is an innocent country.

edit:ah yes,I forgot, what are you talking about concentration camps???That is kinda hilarious, there was not a single concentration camp made by Serbs, that is as true as an elephant with feddery wings flying through clouds!

  11. It keeps Russia in check.  No opinion either way.
