Serbia finishes second leg of 2012 CEV European League without loss – Volleyball news
Serbian women’s national volleyball team added sixth consecutive win to its tally by defeating Hungary on Sunday.
Hungarian team played with the support of local fans at home soil but still failed to overcome the visiting team. Serbia exhibited stellar performance and sent 3-1 (25-18, 25-14, 16-25, 25-19) on board to win the match. Victory moved Serbia to 6-0 in the
tournament, while Hungary remained without any victory after six matches.
Speaking of the match, Serbs got off to a great start it the match and promptly jumped to five-point lead at the first technical timeout (8-3) in opening set. Ana Lazarevic of Serbia was quite active on the net. She made good use of her hands and produced
point-scoring shots. Besides direct hits Serbia also scored on tricky bump passes. Hosts could not stay in front of Serbian speed bombs and lagged behind at the next mandatory stop (10-16). Serbian heroines successfully covered the length of first set at 25-18
and went on front with 1-0 lead.
Hungary caught up a slightly better start in the second set. Nevertheless, Serbia still kept the lead in hand. Home squad asked for a timeout when Serbia had three-point lead (8-5). During the break, the home mentor gave a whole lot of instructions to his
players but the team could not bring any change. Serbia remained ahead of Hungary and took the score to 16-9 at the second TTO. Pumped up Serbian ladies finished the second set 25-14 and extended the lead to 2-0.
With two sets in hand, Serbia tried to put an end to the tussle in third set. However, the hosts managed to save the match points and snatched third set from the visitors. It was a heated competition in third set, which featured a lot of action. Hungarian
women fought bravely and claimed 25-16 win.
Serbs re-asserted their supremacy in fourth set. They rallied from 8-2 to 16-10 and did not stop the hard hitting. Hungary had no option but to accept defeat. Serbia closed fourth set 25-19 and announced match victory.
Serbian coach Ratko Pavlicevic shared his thoughts after the match. He stated, “We cannot complain as we took the match even though we could have played better, while our opponents fought harder than we expected them to do.”
Likewise, the mentor of home team Zoltan Jokay had his say about the match. He said, “We played good only in the third set and this immediately resulted into a positive outcome for us. We have to maintain that same level also in the future and throughout
a complete match.”
